Barcelona has a long and enduring history of anarchism going back long before the Spanish Civil War when it was at its peak.

For example, here's an oath that the fiercely independent Cátalan subjects gave their kings back in the 12th century. In it, I believe, are contained the seeds of anarchism:

"We who are as good as you swear to you who are no better than we, to accept you as our king and sovereign lord, provided you observe all our liberties and laws; but if not, not."

But today's cry is SHOOT THE BANK ...
