"Why do all the boats have eyes?"

"The Vietnamese are superstitious people," our guide answers. "The eyes watch for dangers in the water like snakes and crocodiles."

"Only that?"

"No, ghosts and bad spirits as well. Maybe even dragons," he laughs. "The eyes are protection."
