This is our street address in HCMC. Thanks to a 17th century Portuguese missionary, Vietnamese utilizes a basically Latin alphabet instead of Chinese ideograms.

But there are still plenty of surprises in store for anyone who wants to speak the language - particularly, the 6 different tonalities which completely change the meaning of any and every syllable.
