"Money on the road" is how our guide described this scene. The cash crop of the highlands is coffee. At this time of year the front of every house has a neatly raked pile of beans drying in the sun.

The beans are then bagged and sold to the coffee merchants who come door to door. They in turn stockpile the coffee until the market price is right.

"In my country we call that capitalism," I told our guide. He responded with a wry smile. This year's is a bumper crop with prices high and growers happy.
