At the beginning of the 20th century archeologists came up with a new method for reconstructing ancient sites --"anastylosis". It's still in use today, and not just here at Angkor.

After careful study of a site, original materials and methods, wherever possible, are used to reassemble it. Most of the original restoration work done at Angkor beginning in the 1930s was by the École Française d'Extrême-Orient (EFEO) using this method.
