Mimar Sinan embellished the Ottoman Empire with hundreds of buildings, including this, the Sehzade Camii - or Prince's Mosque. It was his first commission and was built to commemorate the death of Süleyman the Magnificent's son, who died at an early age of smallpox.

The Süleymaniye Mosque is considered his masterpiece but is now closed for restoration. But we did visit this as well as a smaller Rüstem PaČ™a Mosque, near the spice market. Both of them gems.
