Not that long ago you could get only a 7-day visa entering Myanmar and Inle Lake was one of the few sites a tourist was allowed to visit during that week. It's up to 28 days now and immigration authorities don't much care if you overstay your visa - as long as you pay the requisite overage of $3 per day in pristine US bills.

These small temples - or zedi as they're called here - along the lake are about 500 years old and have been recently restored with money donated by individuals and families from other parts of SE Asia.
