The above quote is from a book written in 1841 but things haven't changed much. Mexicans still love music - all the time, everywhere, loud. I'd be willing to bet there are more speakers per capita in Mexico than any other country in the world.

Almost every shop in town, no matter what they sell - clothes, appliances, eyeglasses, cosmetics, soft drinks, you name it - have music cranked up to 11 blaring out into the streets. Locals are inured to the resulting cacophony. Would that I were too.
