INAH - the National Institute of Anthropology and History - puts these tiles in front of many important Mayan sites. They're always in 3 languages - Spanish, Mayan and English. What you see here is an alphabetized version of Mayan, the original language appears as glyphs on the ancient monuments. Mayan is still a living language here. Some of the older women at the Campeche market speak Mayan among themselves. And when they say something to me in Mayan, I can of course reply: "Yucatan".
