The next family outing took us to the sleepy hamlet of Edmonds WA on the Puget Sound - a northern suburb of Seattle. Our assignment: bring Mariane, Joanna's mother, to assisted living in New York City where she has more friends and the possibility of a more interesting life.

This was a long involved process but by the middle of October we were ready to roll. Notice I say roll and not fly. Under doctor's orders Mariane can't fly because cabin pressure changes are dangerous. We were to head east - coast to coast - on AMTRAK.
