This beautiful old house is right smack in the middle of the downtown area. The irony is that a lot of these style houses were torn down to put up the "cultural center" and the accompanying parking lot.

But as anyone involved in construction knows, it's a lot cheaper to demolish and construct from scratch than it is to restore.

How much longer this building will survive is anyone's guess. Vientiane is on a building spree.
