In April of 1964 I skipped school and went to the NY World's Fair the day after it opened. I went to all the pavilions that one would expect a 14 year old to visit - GM's Futurama, GE's Progressland, and Ford's Magic Skyway. But I can still recall the beauty and intrigue of Thailand's pavilion - though there wasn't much for a kid to do inside.

It was a reconstruction of a shrine similar to, but smaller than, the ones pictured here. I don't think I even knew where Thailand was - it just looked very exotic and enchanting. It still does. This building is called the Dusit Maha Prasat Hall - it is for the lying in state of Thai royalty.
