Another ancient site near Yogyakarta is Prambanan. This one is Hindu and is dedicated to the Trimurti - the 3 Gods at the top of the Hindu heirarchy: Brahma, the creator; Vishnu, the preserver; Shiva, the destroyer. It was built around 850 AD, about the same time as Borobudur. There were lots of rivalries and shifting allegiances going on at the time and Prambanan was probably built as a response to that new Buddhist monument down the road.
