Billboard of the Month Indian billboards are an art form unto themselves. It's local election time here in Mysore and it's also time for the annual Ganesh Festival which, depending on who you ask, lasts anywhere from 2 to 10 days. Part of the festivities involves taking a painted clay image of Ganesh to a local stream and washing him. Environmental groups are upset because the figurines are traditionally painted with lead-based enamel which then wreaks havoc with the local eco-system. Newspaper ads exhort readers to use only water-based paint. But I'm told that's not what this poster is about. This politico is merely trying to hitch a ride to a government job on the back of this very popular elephant god. |
