Meet Nandi, Lord Shiva's ride. This particular representation of the holy bull sits 5 meters high and was carved from a solid piece of granite in 1659. It sits on the slope of Chamundi Hill which overlooks the city of Mysore. The entire hill is sacred, it is the home of the Goddess Durga who slew the demon buffalo Mahishasura, which is where the name Mysore comes from. |
