You can find tiles like these, (called azulejos), in churches, palaces, museums and schools throughout Portugal and its colonies. You'll even find them decorating the subway stations in Lisbon. The subject matter might be allegorical, mythological, biblical - or it might just be portraits or hunting scenes. They may go back hundreds of years or they may be quite modern. In Portugal and Brazil, they're everywhere.
