I saw this sign and wondered: "Why would anyone care whether I took a picture of a pile of rocks?"

But I soon realized that present-day Mayans make up about half of the population of Guatemala and they still use sites like these to hold ceremonies. And it's those ceremonies that are not to be recorded in any way.

For example the "fire ceremony" is a ritual that has been passed on for many generations and remains an important tradition for indigenous communities today. During the ceremony, Mayan shamans speak to spirits to ask for help from divinity, mother nature and ancestors.
