I'm sure you've all been wondering what happens to old school buses in the USA.

Answer: They turn into Chicken Buses in Guatemala!

These vehicles start life as a school bus in the United States, and when they've reached 10 years or 150,000 miles of service they are auctioned off for less than $2,000 and driven south to their new homes and a new life - refitted and redecorated for local use.

(If a bus, looking like this, had come to pick me up to go to school when I was young I would definitely have gotten on board!)

Why are they called "chicken buses"? Because they not only transport workers and students but also chickens - among other small animals. (You wonder where all those eggs come from?)
