We drove down along the Nile from Luxor to Aswan. And we then drove across the desert from Aswan to Abu Simbel. If you go even a few hundred meters, in any direction, away from the Nile you'll be in a desert. Our only company for nearly 300 kms were pylons carrying electricity from the Aswan High Dam to the rest of the country.
