Tu Duc was Emperor of Vietnam from 1848 to 1883. He had over a hundred wives and countless concubines. As was the custom at the time, he oversaw the construction of his own tomb - which was really a small walled city, with lakes, pine forests, temples, islands, boathouses and more - all, just south of Hué. Tu Duc's tomb was completed in 1867. The irony is that, after all this, no one knows exactly where he is buried. To keep it a secret, all 200 servants in charge of his funeral were beheaded before they got on 'Larry King Live'. |
