Throughout the country there aren't all that many remnants of the American war. Some jeeps, trucks, a tank or two, a jet fighter, etc. This US-made helicopter is just like the ones used during the April 1975 emergency evacuation of Saigon, known as Operation Frequent Wind - a name which, I'm assured, has nothing to do with the flatulent rhetoric of both Democratic and Republican administrations during the war years. This chopper now sits atop the heliport of the Reunification Palace in downtown HCMC, which served as the 'White House' for leaders of the South Vietnamese government. The building is now a conference center and history museum. |
