Bao Dai was the last emperor of Vietnam and Dalat was the site of his summer palace. It was built in the 1950's while the French were still in control and let him revel in his token position. In the summer months when it was too hot and humid in the coastal city of Hue, the imperial capital, he came into the highlands, and, like Bungalow Bill, "...went out tiger hunting with his elephant and gun...". |
