We were in Cambodia for election day. As expected, Prime Minister Hun Sen's Cambodian People's Party won a landslide victory despite the fact that Sen is a former Khmer Rouge soldier who, in 1997, overthrew the existing government in a brutal, bloody coup and that the CPP has been accused of land grabbing, illegal logging, tossing grenades into protest rallies, torture, murder and other odious exploits.

On election day, not coincidentally, BBC and CNN suddenly went missing from our hotel TV. The Cambodian people deserve better, but with this lot in firm control it will be a long time before they get it.
