Sing, O goddess, sing of the rage of Achilles, son of Peleus, that brought countless ills upon the Achaeans. Many a brave soul did it hurl down to Hades, and many a great hero did it yield a prey to dogs and vultures, for such was the will of Zeus. Begin, Muse, the day the two first clashed, Agamemnon, king of men, and great Achilles. We took a trip down the Aegean coast. Our first stop was Troy, located at the very opening of the Hellespont, or Dardanelles, as it's called today. The Trojan war was not the only bloody battle waged here. Gallipoli is not far away on the European side. |
