Cádiz is also one of the oldest cities in Europe. Founded by Phoenicians - a great seafaring people - about 1200 BC. The Greeks, Romans and Moors eventually followed in their wake.

But its Golden Age was in the centuries after Columbus when most of the trade to and from the Americas came through its port.
