The most impressive part by far are the remains of the mosque. Work was begun in 784 with the idea to build one that would rival those of Baghdad, Damascus and Jerusalem.

When Catholics took back the site in the 13th century they left a large part of the mosque intact and still had room to build a cathdral right smack in the middle of it.
