Mocárabe is seen everywhere in the Alhambra - on ceilings, arches, columns, windows and friezes. It gives the palaces a delicate, almost fragile appearance. It's designed to reflect the beauty of paradise. Granada was the final stronghold of the Moors of Andalucía. In 1492 the last of the Nasrid rulers, Muhammad XII (Boabdil), handed over the city keys to the Catholic Monarchs Ferdinand and Isabella. It must have a been a very sad day for him. |
