These fun loving girls are selling necklaces to tourists. The 'makeup' they're wearing is called thanaka. Almost all Burmese women wear it almost all the time.

Thanaka is a tree (Limonia acidissima) and you can buy the dried branches at any market. Women grind the stems with water into a fine powder and apply it to their faces. It protects their skin from the strong tropical sun. They also think it's a mark of beauty. Some believe it prevents acne. And I imagine some use it merely because everyone else does.
