There's a dearth of modern housing in Yangon and most of that is owned by the army elite and their cronies whose rental fees, aimed at foreigners, are exorbitant. But that's about to change as there's a building boom going on the likes of which I've never seen.

But sadly Yangon is committing the same mistakes almost all SE Asian cities have made in recent decades - nearly unlimited construction with little thought to the infrastructure needed to service this growth.
