There are three churches in Tlacotalpan, two of them are located on the zocalo. The third, the smallest and oldest, is known as San Miguelito. It's on the other side of the tracks -- if Tlacotalpan had any tracks to be on the other side of. San Miguelito was built in 1785 for the indigenos -- the local native population who had been converted to Catholicism by Spanish missionaries over the centuries. It's the most popular church in town and on Sundays and holidays, crowds of men, women and children spill out onto the streets from the side and back doors.
