The name Guanajuato comes from Quanax Huato in the Purépecha language of centuries ago and means "hilly place of frogs". I haven't seen any frogs but there are plenty of hills. The city is built into a ravine and at 2000 meters ( 1¼ miles ) above sea level there's a lot of huffing and puffing to get around. Our apartment is at the top of one of those hills - and the views are great. |
