There's a shop at the corner of our block that makes and sells dresses. At first I thought they might have something to do with Carnevale but no, they are for Quinceañeras, a family's celebration when a girl becomes a woman at the age of 15. Traditionally these dresses would have been pink or white to symbolize purity. This would also have been the first time a girl puts on makeup or dances in public. But traditions change. |
