Long before Hulk Hogan and WrestleMania there was Lucha Libre. Mexicans invented the 'sport'.

I actually went to a show of this ilk in Madison Square Garden in New York with our son Miles when he was 6. We'd won 4 tickets in a silent auction and put them in his Christmas stocking. (We're sure he believed in Santa Claus another year after that - "It must have been Santa - my parents would never have given me this.")

What surprised me most was the number of avid adults in the audience. As David Letterman said: "America is the only country where a significant proportion of the population believes that professional wrestling is real but the moon landing was faked."

Is there hope for our species?
