Looking across the Mekong to Thailand from our treehouse we watched the celebration of Boun Ok Phansa, the end of Buddhist Lent, which began in July with Khao Phansa. During this 3 month period monks are supposed to stay put in their Wats - no traveling. Buon Ok Phansa also marks the end of the rainy season. The festivities center around the river which is now at its highest. Fireworks, boat races, prayer and Beer Lao all play their part in the celebration. |
