The riverbank project is one of many that are going on here in Vientiane. Laos is on the UN list of Least Developed Countries -- nutrition, health, education and literacy standards are below the world norm. Everyone wants that to change.

This is the beginning of Vientiane's World Trade Center project. It will house luxury hotels, restaurants and brand-name shopping. To do something like this takes money and skilled labor - 2 things Laos has in short supply. It's all being done by the Chinese. I don't believe all this change is for the good.
