The backstrap loom, still widely used in Laos and other parts of the world, is one of the oldest and simplest varieties. The weaver sits on the ground and "wears" the loom -- that is, she, for it's always women's work, wraps the front end of it behind her back and leans to adjust the tension as needed. It's relatively easy to set up and it's portable. |
