Year of the Tiger

Some people will say,"I have a cat." Not true. Whether or not you care to admit it, the cat has you. Micio which means "kitty" in Italian (the Laotian word for cat, believe it or not is "meow") came by our house one day and has never left.

February 14th brought in the Year of the Tiger. I'd love to have been able to put up a pix of one, but their numbers are now so few in SE Asia that it's unlikely I'd be able to spot one anywhere but in a zoo.

Our friend Nick Cox who works in Vientiane for WWF, is working hard to save what's left of them. The main problem is that there's neither enough forest nor prey to sustain them.
