The Grand Canal is 4 km long and crossed by only a few bridges. This can make it somewhat tedious to get to the other side. But that's where these traghetti come in. They take tourists across for €2 (locals 70¢).

They were established sometime in the 14th century and up until recently there were still a half dozen locations where you could get this crossing. Today only 2 remain. This is the Santa Sofia traghetto which we often take across from Cannaregio to the Rialto fish market.
