... industrial zones and strip malls. This site is just a few hundred meters from where I took the previous picture and it's a sight you can see all over Italy. Speculators and their machines are busy converting what was fertile farmland to yet another strip mall.

Italians seem to like these projects because they promise jobs and convenience. Maybe only expats like myself who were initially attracted to this area by its natural beauty, look askance at this 'progress'.

But the sad reality is, there are few in the younger generation willing to take on the hard work of farming.
