We were welcomed to join in a funeral observance. It was a double funeral, mother and son. No one seemed to know exactly how old they were. My guess is the mother was nearing 90 and the son in his 70s. We were there for the 4th and last day of celebration - and it did feel like a celebration. In fact in some ways the whole thing seemed more like a wedding than a funeral. There was a master of cermonies with a microphone, along with a photographer, a videographer and a protestant minister to say prayers, sing hymns and give her blessing to the whole pagan shebang. The mother had been dead for about a year, the son for several months. It takes a long time to prepare a funeral. |
