Indonesia is an extraordinary country. There are something like 8,000 inhabited islands and thousands more uninhabited.   255 million people live here and over 300 different languages are spoken. I'm not the only one who finds it amazing that this enormous archipelago stretching along the equator from Sumatra to Papua and covering a distance of over 5,000 km is one unified country.

Just to give you an idea of size: if you travelled from the eastern to the western limits of Indonesia it would be the same distance as, say, travelling from Orlando, Florida to Juneau, Alaska - or Amsterdam to Kabul.

The island of Bali is somewhere about the middle of this chain of islands and that's where we landed first.
