Every temple has its tank, or reservoir, which is fed by springs, wells or directly from nearby rivers. The main source of water in Tamil Nadu is the Cauvery River.

The tank is where people gather to eat, drink, wash, gossip and worship. (While we were here, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi died. His ashes were scattered in the Cauvery as well as other sacred rivers in India.)
