Our next stop was the city of Loja. You can see it in the distance in this photo. It lies about 200 km south of Cuenca -- not far, as the crow flies. But with the twists and turns and ups and downs of the Cordillera de los Andes it takes longer than you might think to get from place to place. Fortunately the roads are in good shape, the scenery is breathtaking and drivers here are very considerate. Which is good - because we have lots of travel ahead of us.
