Baños lies at the foot of Tungurahua - "Throat of Fire" - in the Quichua language of these parts. It's 5023 meters in height and it, too, is an active volcano. The last major eruption was on February 1, 2014 - exactly 6 years before our arrival here. It was accompanied by an ash plume that shot up a few kilometers. It seems to have settled down now - but with volcanoes, you just never know. I took this pix on one of the rare, uncloudy days this area enjoys. On the right in the far distance, topped with snow and ice, is Chimborazo.
