The Voice of Tango

Carlos Gardel began his singing career in bars in Buenos Aires. By 1917 he had created what came to be known as the tango-canción. His records, more than anything else, made the dance famous around the world.

His film career was just taking off when he died in a plane crash in 1935. He is still a revered figure in these parts. Argentines like to say: “Gardel sings better every day.” Click below to see if you agree.
